Kinsella returns to GB gymnastics squad for Worlds a year after childbirth
Olympic bronze medallist Alice Kinsella has been named in Great Britain's team for the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, just a year after giving birth.
Alice Kinsella, 25, an Olympic bronze medallist and two-time European champion, has been selected for Great Britain's squad competing at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands, from 17-25 October. Her selection comes roughly a year after the birth of her son, Parker.
In March, Kinsella became the first British artistic gymnast to return to competition after giving birth, finishing fourth on beam at the British Championships. She also got married over the summer.
Kinsella said the news felt surreal, explaining that her original goal had been to be fully competition-ready only next year, making this call-up to the World Championships unexpected. She expressed pride in reaching this milestone just over a year postpartum, describing the past year as tough but saying she has no regrets about returning to elite sport, since it had always been her goal. She added that she looks forward to telling her son the story once he is older.
Joining Kinsella on the trip to Rotterdam are fellow world medallists Abigail Martin, Ruby Evans, Becky Downie and Alia Leat. In the men's competition, Britain will be represented by double world champion Jake Jarman and Olympic bronze medallist Harry Hepworth, along with Scotland's Reuben Ward, three-time world medallist Joe Fraser and double world medallist Courtney Tulloch.
