Cyprus, aligning with the EU's position, will attend as an observer at the U.S.-led Gaza Board of Peace, established by President Donald Trump. According to officials, Cyprus is not a co-organizer of the event, nor is it taking place at a political level. The island nation was selected by the executive committee.

The Board of Peace, initiated by Trump, aims to oversee the reconstruction and governance of the Gaza Strip. Its first meeting occurred in February but has yielded little progress due to funding shortages, logistical hurdles, and questions over international and legal legitimacy.

Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire. A recent Israeli strike killed six people, including two children and an Al Jazeera cameraman. The conflict began with Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and took 251 hostages. Israel's subsequent military offensive has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians, many civilians, displaced 90% of Gaza's population, and destroyed vast areas.

A ceasefire brokered by Trump in October 2025 led to the release of the remaining 20 Israeli hostages.
