Former heavyweight boxer Vladimir Klitschko has petitioned a court for expanded authority that would let him push for an investigation into missing property belonging to his late former partner, actress Hayden Panettiere. He believes some of her jewelry may have been pawned.

According to court filings, Klitschko suspects a person who was previously close to Panettiere, but who is not a family member, may have pawned some of her belongings, possibly including jewelry. He states that the pawnshop in question has declined to share detailed information about the items unless approached by law enforcement, and he worries the property could be sold on to others if police are not involved.

Tied to guardianship bid

The missing-property concerns have surfaced amid Klitschko's effort to become the official guardian of the couple's daughter, Kaya. He already holds sole custody of Kaya, but guardianship status is needed for him to represent her interests regarding her mother's estate. Klitschko wants his guardianship powers expanded to include the right to request and authorize a law-enforcement investigation into possible misappropriation of Panettiere's property and to assist in recovering it, noting that recovering the missing items could directly affect his daughter's inheritance.

Additional claims

Klitschko's filing also points to other unaccounted-for jewelry and alleges that someone accessed Panettiere's email accounts and deleted messages. He says some of her belongings are currently held by law enforcement, while federal agents seized others. The documents further state that shortly before her death, Panettiere had hired a security firm to protect her home and its contents, following concerns that someone may have entered her residence without permission, and that her designer clothing was moved elsewhere to prevent it from potentially being taken.

Hayden Panettiere died on August 16 at age 36. The cause of death was a drug overdose.
