The Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) has initiated a review in response to information that has emerged in the public sphere. The review concerns a Saeima deputy who may have acted dishonestly when receiving compensation for apartment rental expenses. According to KNAB, the decision to start the review was made on the bureau's own initiative.

The deputy in question is Rasima. KNAB's task is to determine whether the compensation was received in accordance with legal requirements and whether there are any signs of misconduct. At this stage, no conclusions have been drawn; the review is only at its beginning. No further details about the process have been disclosed.

The bureau is expected to collect and assess the available information in order to establish whether there are any signs of a violation. The answer to this question will be known once the review is completed. KNAB will likely inform the public about its findings after gathering all the necessary material.

The case highlights questions about transparency in how politicians claim expense reimbursements. At the same time, starting a review does not mean that the deputy has already been found guilty. All the circumstances must first be established and an objective assessment provided.
