KNAB Launches Investigation into Possible Misconduct by Ogre Municipality Officials

The Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) has initiated an internal investigation based on information received from the State Audit Office concerning possible unlawful actions by officials of Ogre Municipality. The State Audit Office, during an audit, identified significant violations.

According to the audit, the Ogre Municipality Council spent at least €434,000 in a manner inconsistent with legal requirements. Additionally, signs of fraud risks were detected in procurement processes, and relevant law enforcement and supervisory authorities have been notified. The audit revealed deficiencies in the internal control system, financial management, strategic planning, and project implementation.

The State Audit Office has called on the municipality to recover the improperly spent funds on its own. Failure to do so may trigger a loss recovery process. Ogre Council Chairman Andris Krauja (NA) stated that the municipality lacks information on which projects are deemed non-compliant and sees no need for political or disciplinary responsibility. He promised that the municipality will provide explanations to the State Audit Office.
