Head of KNAB's operations department applies for anti-corruption bureau chief post

Renārs Reiniks, who heads the Operational Activities Department at Latvia's Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB), has entered the competition for the bureau's top leadership post. KNAB representatives confirmed the news to the LETA news agency.

Meanwhile, Ineta Cīrule, who currently serves as acting head of KNAB and is also deputy chief for investigative matters, has not applied and will not take part in the competition.

Reiniks currently leads one of the bureau's key units, responsible for carrying out operational activities in the detection and investigation of corruption cases.

The competition for KNAB's leadership was launched due to the need to appoint a new permanent head of the bureau. Cīrule had been running the agency in an acting capacity, but she has chosen not to seek the permanent position.
