Knicks halt ticket sales after pricing error, promise refunds

Tickets went on sale Wednesday, and the prices immediately sparked widespread fan frustration. For the season opener, during which the championship banner will be raised at Madison Square Garden, even seats with the worst views were priced at a minimum of 1,000 US dollars.
Club's explanation
The Knicks said in a statement that they are pausing individual ticket sales due to a pricing error. The club plans to return to last season's prices, applying an average 12 percent increase, and will resume sales soon at the corrected rates. Anyone who already purchased individual tickets at the inflated prices will be refunded the difference.
The club stressed it never intended to make loyal fans overpay, and thanked supporters for their patience while the issue is resolved. The planned 12 percent price increase will apply not only to individual tickets but also to season ticket packages.
High demand after the title
Interest in the Knicks' upcoming season is especially strong, as this is the first year following the team's long-awaited championship. Madison Square Garden was already known as one of the most expensive arenas in the NBA for tickets, and demand has grown even further after the more than five-decade wait for a title.
