The Latvian news portal LSM has published a piece on what worries people working in Latvia's cultural sector, timed just after Halloween, which is marked on 31 October. The editors surveyed 14 representatives of the industry and asked each to describe their main fears about the future of Latvian culture.

LSM notes that Halloween is a time when people are used to telling scary stories, but for those who work in culture, fear is part of everyday life. The article names several central concerns:

  • burned-out artists;
  • a language that may vanish;
  • empty libraries;
  • culture without funding;
  • a country with no design identity of its own.

According to the introduction of the publication, these are the scenarios that cultural workers find most alarming. The full opinions of the respondents are available in the LSM article, where each of the 14 participants sets out their own view of the sector's future.
