Kobo eReader Integrates with StoryGraph to Challenge Amazon's Goodreads Dominance
Kobo has become the first eReader to integrate with book tracking platform StoryGraph, automatically syncing reading progress and offering a new rival to Amazon's Goodreads.

Kobo users can now automatically sync their reading data with StoryGraph, a platform that directly competes with Amazon-owned Goodreads. The integration, first announced in May, went live on Monday for all Kobo account holders.
StoryGraph was founded in 2019 by Nadia Odunayo and Rob Frelow. Starting as a side project without outside funding, it has grown to a community of over 5 million readers. Kobo, on the other hand, boasts 12 million users across 190 countries.
The integration works with all Kobo devices and apps, supporting both ebooks and audiobooks. When a user finishes a book on their Kobo, it will automatically be marked as "Read" on StoryGraph, keeping reading stats up-to-date.
StoryGraph offers deeper analytics, including detailed charts on reading mood, pace, and more, along with reading challenges and book clubs. While basic features are free, a Plus subscription ($5/month) provides additional filters and comparison tools.
According to Pew Research, 31% of U.S. adults read an ebook in the past year, up from 17% in 2011, driven by online communities like #booktok.
Kobo and StoryGraph are not alone in capitalizing on the reading revival. Everand recently acquired digital book community app Fable to offer a similar integration without hardware.
