Kocēni conference discusses benefits wind farms bring to regions
Experts, municipal representatives and entrepreneurs gathered in Kocēni, Valmiera municipality, on Friday to discuss how wind farm development could benefit local communities. The conference examined whether wind energy can become a driver of regional development.

On Friday, September 11, a conference titled "Can (how) wind become a driver of regional development?" took place in Kocēni, in Valmiera municipality. The event brought together industry experts, municipal representatives and entrepreneurs to discuss the economic contribution wind farm development can make to regions.
Focus on local communities
A central theme of the discussion was how to ensure that local communities gain more directly from the development of wind energy projects in their areas, rather than the benefits being concentrated elsewhere. Participants also raised the question of whether municipalities where wind farms are already operating or under development are already seeing tangible benefits for residents.
The conference reflects growing attention to the regional development impact of renewable energy projects in Latvia, bringing together state and local government representatives alongside businesses active in the wind energy sector to exchange views on how such projects can better serve the communities hosting them.
