Koknese apartment building at 16 Parka Street gets new roof and repaired balconies
A major renovation of an apartment building at 16 Parka Street in Koknese, Latvia, has been completed, including a new roof and repairs to balconies that were in an emergency condition. The building is managed by the association “Kokneses nami”.

A large-scale renovation has just been completed at a multi-apartment residential building at 16 Parka Street in Koknese, Latvia. The building received a new roof, its balconies, which had been in an emergency condition, were repaired, and other work was carried out. The property is managed by the association “Kokneses nami”, and board member Elita Freija told the newspaper’s editorial office about the work.
Why the association was created
Freija says the association was founded last year to help residents of multi-apartment buildings renovate homes that have aged over time. Apartment owners often lack the knowledge and energy to sort everything out themselves, and in many places they do not know which management model would suit them best.
Most such buildings are currently managed by municipal companies. By setting up the association, Freija wanted to bring a different approach to the field and show how management can work when handled by an association, what conditions and changes it can offer, and whether this is better.
The residents’ situation
After the association was established, its representatives contacted buildings whose residents might want to change their manager. The residents of 16 Parka Street were very interested, as they had long struggled with a leaking roof. They had been saving money for repairs, but this went very slowly while the roof kept leaking.
