Last year's incident

Last year, an incident in the Koknese parish drew widespread public attention when a bridge built without proper authorization collapsed at a local guesthouse during a wedding celebration. The structure failed under the load, throwing 30 wedding guests into the water. Several of those affected suffered injuries, including bone fractures, and required medical treatment.

The case sparked discussion about unauthorized construction and the lack of oversight at entertainment and tourism venues, where infrastructure safety is not always properly checked before use at public events.

New violations discovered

Since last year's incident, the injured guests have recovered from their injuries and fractures. However, according to Jauns.lv, the situation at the guesthouse itself has still not been fully resolved — new violations have now been identified at the property.

The fact that problems continue at the same guesthouse more than a year after the widely publicized collapse suggests that the question of the venue's compliance with safety and construction requirements remains unaddressed. The case is a reminder of the need for stricter oversight of tourism and entertainment venues to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
