Ukrainian commander Chornovol says evacuation of wounded and fallen soldiers remains chaotic and improvised in most units, calling for dedicated evacuation teams and light-armored vehicles, while noting robots are still too slow to solve the problem.

Ukrainian military commander Chornovol has said that the evacuation of wounded and killed soldiers remains chaotic and largely improvised in most units of Ukraine's armed forces. According to the commander, evacuation has effectively become an unexpected emergency situation that most units are not properly prepared to handle.

Chornovol stressed that current evacuation practices rely on improvisation rather than a clearly defined and rehearsed procedure. In the commander's view, the solution lies in creating dedicated evacuation teams whose sole task would be retrieving wounded and fallen soldiers from the battlefield.

Beyond personnel, Chornovol called for equipping units with light-armored vehicles specifically intended for evacuation purposes. Such vehicles would allow the wounded to be moved more safely and quickly from dangerous areas to safer positions.

Robots not yet a solution

The commander also addressed the use of robotic systems in the evacuation process. In Chornovol's assessment, robots currently available are still too slow to genuinely solve the evacuation problem under combat conditions. This means technological solutions cannot yet replace human-led evacuation or make up for the shortcomings in the current system.

Chornovol's remarks point to evacuation as an area within Ukraine's armed forces that still requires structural improvement — both organizationally and in terms of technical equipment.
