Como Misses Final of Own Cup, Atletico Win 4-1, Newcastle Lose 1-4
Italian side Como, set to play in the Champions League next season, failed to reach the final of their own pre-season tournament, losing to Villarreal on penalties. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid beat Getafe 4-1, and Newcastle United suffered a 1-4 defeat to Bristol City.
Group Stage
In a pre-season tournament hosted by Italian Serie A side Como, group matches consisted of a single half (45 minutes). In Group A, French club Lens beat London's Crystal Palace 3-0, with Odsonne Edouard scoring twice. However, Lens failed to top the group after a 0-0 draw with Portugal's Famalicão, losing 7-8 on penalties.
In Group B, Spanish side Villarreal defeated Saudi Arabian club Al-Ula 3-0, with Ayoze Perez scoring a brace. Como also faced Al-Ula and came from behind to win 3-1. The decisive Group B match between Como and Villarreal saw the hosts take the lead in the 27th minute, only for the Spanish visitors to equalize immediately. Villarreal then proved superior in the penalty shootout, knocking Como out of the competition.

Atletico Madrid crushed Getafe 4-1 in their first pre-season friendly, with Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman scoring twice. Meanwhile, Newcastle United suffered a surprising 1-4 defeat to Championship side Bristol City. Harvey Barnes scored the only goal for Newcastle. Earlier, Newcastle had drawn 1-1 with fifth-tier side Gateshead.
