Latvia's leading football clubs have had differing fortunes in the opening matches of the UEFA Conference League third qualifying round. The two home fixtures took place at Skonto Stadium in Riga, where two narrow victories were achieved within the space of two days.

First, Auda defeated opponents from Albania 1:0, and two days later Riga recorded the same scoreline against a Hungarian side. In both matches, the Latvian teams managed to keep clean sheets, giving themselves a valuable advantage ahead of the return legs.

Meanwhile, RFS were unable to cope with Czech club Jablonec in an away match, losing 0:2. This result leaves RFS with a difficult task in the second leg, as they will need to overturn a two-goal deficit.

The return matches will take place in a week and will decide which teams advance further in the competition. Auda and Riga will need to defend their narrow leads, while RFS will have to try to change the situation in their favour.
