This week, enrollment for 10th graders continues at vocational schools (tehnikumi), and some programs have as many as seven applicants per place. Meanwhile, state gymnasiums have almost completely filled their 10th grade classes, and most Riga high schools have concluded enrollment. Consequently, about 500 young people who have not yet received an invitation must choose schools that still have available spots without competitive entry. In some cases, it is harder to get into a vocational school than into a high school due to tighter competition.
