41 Buildings Compete for the Title of Most Energy-Efficient in Latvia
The competition "Energy-Efficient Building of Latvia 2026" received 41 applications, most in the renovated apartment building category. Winners will be announced in September.

The Ministry of Economics has announced that 41 buildings have been submitted for the competition "Energy-Efficient Building of Latvia 2026." The largest number of entries, 21, is in the category "Most Energy-Efficient Renovated Apartment Building." These include apartment buildings from Olaine, Jaunolaine, Stūnīši, Riga, Jelgava, Talsu Municipality, Ķekava, Carnikava, Liepāja, Lielvārde, Valmiera, and Rēzekne. Specific addresses mentioned include 27 Zemgales Street in Olaine, 21 Nīcgales Street and 53 Bauskas Street in Riga, 105 Kalnciema Road in Jelgava, 13 Baltijas Street in Liepāja, 15 Linarda Laicena Street in Valmiera, and several buildings in Rēzekne.
In the category "Most Energy-Efficient Apartment Building – New Construction," five applications have been received. The contenders include a building at 5C Gaujas Street in Mārupe, as well as buildings at 1 Ēvalda Valtera Street, 47A Sergeja Eizenšteina Street, 17 Grēdu Street, and 6 Gdaņskas Street in Riga.
The public buildings category features entries from several municipalities, including Lejasciems Primary School in Gulbene Municipality, office buildings in the Magdalēna Quarter and New Hanza in Riga, Vidzeme Rehabilitation Center in Valmiera, social service buildings in Bauska, Vecumnieki Secondary School, preschool educational institutions in Augšlīgatne and Liepāja, Mārupe Youth Center "Hēlijs," the University of Latvia's dormitory in Riga, and the municipal administration building "Bērzi" in Tukums Municipality.
In the industrial buildings category, there are two submissions: the Caljan LSEZ SIA building at 142A Brīvības Street in Liepāja and the farm "Karotītes" building in "Vecmuižnieki," Tume Parish, Tukums Municipality.
Applications were accepted until June 17, 2026. The jury will decide by the end of August which buildings advance to the second round of evaluation, which will involve on-site inspections. The award ceremony for the winners is scheduled for September.
