Inese Jansone-Šulmeistere, head of Latvia's Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP), said in an interview with TV3's programme "900 sekundes" that by the end of August, 1,100 people had filed first-time asylum requests in Latvia.
Jansone-Šulmeistere cited the figure while discussing the current situation regarding asylum seekers in the country. PMLP is the state agency responsible for processing asylum applications and overseeing migration matters in Latvia.
