Ivory Coast advances to World Cup knockout stage for first time

Ivory Coast defeated Curaçao 2-0 to secure second place in Group E, earning a historic spot in the World Cup round of 16.

Ivory Coast's national team made history on Tuesday by reaching the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time, beating Curaçao 2-0 in Philadelphia. The victory secured second place in Group E.

Forward Nicolas Pepe scored both goals, opening the account in the 7th minute after a counterattack initiated by Jean-Diomande, then doubling the lead in the 64th minute with a close-range finish.

Curaçao, making their World Cup debut, managed five shots on target but only one on frame. Ivory Coast dominated possession with 70% control.

In Group E, Ivory Coast finished behind Germany with two wins and four goals scored. Curaçao ended last with one draw and two losses.

In the round of 16, Ivory Coast will face the runner-up of Group I, either France or Norway.
