Fake Telia invoices spread in phishing scam

In recent days, several Telia customers have received emails containing fake invoices. The scammers are trying to gain access to recipients' bank accounts. The emails are designed to look like genuine Telia bills and include a link that recipients are urged to click.

Telia cybersecurity expert Raivo Malter stressed that people should never click such links or confirm any actions using their personal PIN codes. He explained that this is exactly what criminals want — access to the bank accounts of unsuspecting people.

Fake emails can be recognized by the suspicious sender address, which has no connection to Telia. The company sends invoices to customers only from the official address arved@telia.ee. Another sign of fraud is the absence of personal data: the fraudulent emails usually do not contain the customer's name, address or other details normally found on official invoices.

Malter advises that regardless of who the sender claims to be, the authenticity of any questionable email should be checked. Until verified, no link or button in the message should be clicked. The safest way to check is to use the company's official channels, including its website and the domain from which its emails are sent. If the sender's address differs even slightly, maximum caution is required.
