Only twice a month: Krāslava residents face shortage of public services
Over the past five years Krāslava has lost both its only bank branch and its local migration affairs office, forcing residents to travel to Daugavpils or rely on rare mobile service days.

Residents of the Krāslava municipality are dealing with a growing shortage of local services. Over the past five years, the town has lost not only its sole bank branch but also its branch of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP).
As a result, residents who need banking services or need to handle official documents now have to travel to the nearest city that offers them – Daugavpils.
Limited mobile reception days
To partly address the gap, PMLP arranges mobile reception hours at the Krāslava Culture House twice a month. However, this solution does not suit everyone. Many residents find it difficult to align these limited reception times with their own schedules, and arranging transport to attend on just two designated days a month adds further difficulty.
The situation reflects a broader trend in which the centralization of public services in outlying regions reduces their availability in smaller towns, forcing residents to spend extra time and effort handling everyday administrative needs.
