Yuri Ushakov, a foreign policy aide to the Russian leader, has said Moscow is prepared to restart trilateral negotiations with Ukraine and the United States after November 4. Russian outlet RBC reported the remarks, which Ushakov made to the propaganda TV channel Vesti. The talks are part of efforts to find a way to end the war in Ukraine.

What Ushakov said

According to him, Russia is ready to return to the negotiating table after November 4, when the country marks National Unity Day. Ushakov stressed that he does not expect substantial results from the first trilateral meeting after the break.

He said: "The next deadline now is November 4, our big holiday. After that we will be ready to resume negotiations. Not much can be decided at the first meeting either; it will probably be a kind of trial-run in nature."

National Unity Day

National Unity Day is a public holiday in Russia observed on November 4 since 2005. It is dedicated to events of 1612, when a popular militia liberated Moscow from a Polish garrison. The holiday effectively replaced the November 7 day off, which was tied to the anniversary of the October Revolution.

Where the next round could take place

According to sources in the US government, the next round of talks between US, Ukrainian and Russian delegations could be held in Abu Dhabi or Switzerland.
