Kremlin lashes out at UK decision to share secret missile technology with Ukraine

Moscow has sharply criticized the UK's plan to hand Ukraine secret production technology for long-range Storm Shadow/SCALP missiles, calling it a threat to the peace process. Russia's military claims it is already gathering data to locate and destroy potential production sites.

Russia's Kremlin has strongly condemned Britain's plan to share classified data on components used to manufacture long-range Storm Shadow/SCALP missiles with Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, quoted by Russian news agency Interfax, described the move as "pouring oil on the fire."

Moscow claims London is deliberately doing everything possible to obstruct any progress toward a peace settlement. Peskov said Russia views "extremely negatively" the UK's announced plans to hand Kyiv secret information about British-made components for long-range missiles.

Threats against production sites

The Kremlin spokesman stated that the Russian military is already "carrying out relevant work" and collecting data to identify the locations where such missiles and other military equipment are produced. According to Peskov, measures are being taken to destroy these facilities.

Burnham's visit to Kyiv

The statement follows the arrival of British Prime Minister Andy Burnham in Kyiv on August 24, marking his first foreign trip since taking office. He is expected to formally announce the transfer of secret data on British components for the SCALP long-range missile, as Ukraine and France plan to set up local assembly lines inside Ukraine.

Burnham has also pledged that the UK will back Ukraine "100 percent" against Russia and remain on its side "in a time of trouble," despite threats from Moscow.

The development comes after Russia previously accused Britain of a "deliberate pursuit of escalation," following media reports that British-made drones had allegedly been used in strikes on targets inside Russian territory.
