Kremlin Says No Decision Yet on Putin's Possible G20 Trip to Miami

The Kremlin has confirmed that no decision has been made regarding President Vladimir Putin's potential attendance at the G20 summit scheduled for December in Miami. Citing Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Interfax reported that Moscow still does not know whether it will send its delegation to the United States.

Speaking on Saturday, Peskov said the matter remained undecided. Earlier the same day, Kremlin foreign policy aide Yury Ushakov offered a similar assessment, stating that the question of Putin's participation has not even been raised for discussion within the Kremlin.

A Shift From Earlier Signals

The current uncertainty contrasts with an earlier Kremlin statement in April, when officials suggested Putin could travel to the G20 summit after U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that his presence would be highly beneficial. That earlier comment had left the door open to a possible appearance.

Response to Zelensky's Proposal

The renewed uncertainty comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he would travel to Miami if Putin were to attend, with the aim of securing a direct meeting between the two leaders. Asked about this proposal, Peskov restated Moscow's long-held position: if Zelensky wishes to meet his Russian counterpart, he should travel to Moscow instead.

By reiterating this stance, the Kremlin effectively rejected the idea of holding talks on neutral ground, maintaining its condition that any encounter take place on Russian terms. Whether Putin will ultimately attend the G20 summit remains unresolved, with Moscow yet to announce a final decision.
