Kremlin begins preparing a Putin–Trump–Xi trilateral meeting
Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, says preparations have begun for a three-way meeting of the Russian, US and Chinese leaders. He added that Moscow is ready to resume talks with Ukraine and the US after 4 November.
Yuri Ushakov, a foreign policy aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, has said that preparations have started for a trilateral meeting between Putin, US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The statement was reported on 25 October 2026 by the Russian outlet Astra, which cited the Kremlin-aligned Russian publications Kommersant and Interfax. Ukrainska Pravda, a Ukrainian news site, relayed the report as part of its coverage of Russian diplomacy and the search for an end to the war in Ukraine.
What Ushakov said
According to Ushakov, Moscow, Beijing and Washington are essentially willing to hold such a meeting. He presented this as a firm assessment, saying he could now state with certainty that all three sides are open to the idea and that preparatory work has already begun.
The source does not say when or where a meeting might take place, what would be on its agenda, or whether Washington and Beijing have separately confirmed the information. For now, these are statements by a Kremlin official, as quoted by Russian media.
Talks involving Ukraine
As additional background, the report notes that Ushakov also spoke about resuming trilateral negotiations involving Russia, Ukraine and the United States. In his words, Moscow is prepared to return to such talks after 4 November. No further details on the format or venue of those negotiations are given.
A meeting that brings together the leaders of Russia, the United States and China would be a significant international signal, since all three countries carry weight in global security and economic affairs.
