A Moscow court has ordered the arrest of a scientist from the Central Scientific Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering (CNIIMash), part of the Russian state space agency Roscosmos. He has been charged with "state treason."
This is at least the seventh known case since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in which a scientist working in the defense sector has been prosecuted. Most of the scientists accused of "state treason" were involved in developing hypersonic technologies.
The exact nature of the charges remains unknown because all cases involving "state treason" are classified in Russia.
