Russian law enforcement authorities have detained Igor Vasilyev, director general of the military-themed Patriot Park, on suspicion of accepting a bribe classified under Russian law as especially large. Fontanka was first to report the detention, citing a source who said the case involves roughly 80 million rubles in bribes. Law enforcement sources also confirmed the detention to the TASS news agency. Two of Vasilyev's deputies were detained before him.

Vasilyev took over as head of Patriot Park in March 2026. One of his predecessors in the post, Vyacheslav Akhmedov, also faced criminal prosecution: he was detained in 2024 and sentenced to five years in prison in 2025. Akhmedov was convicted over his role in the theft of 25 million rubles that had officially been allocated for construction work at Patriot Park but was instead used to build a house for former Deputy Defense Minister Pavel Popov.

Before joining Patriot Park, Vasilyev had a long career in state service: he previously served in the KGB, represented the Komi Republic as a senator, worked as an auditor at the Accounts Chamber, headed the Rosreestr land registry agency, and served as governor of the Kirov region from 2016 to 2022. As governor, he succeeded Nikita Belykh, who was convicted in a separate bribery case.

Patriot Park, overseen by Russia's Defense Ministry, is a military-patriotic education and exhibition center that has repeatedly been linked to corruption cases involving senior officials.
