Russia strikes train in Kharkiv region with drone, six people injured
On the morning of September 9, a Russian drone hit a passenger train near the village of Iskra in the Kharkiv region, injuring six people. Russia had already attacked trains elsewhere in Ukraine the day before.
On the morning of Tuesday, September 9, Russian forces struck a railway station near the village of Iskra in the Kharkiv region using a "Shahed"-type attack drone. The strike hit a passenger train running the Kharkiv–Izium route.
According to the Izium military administration, the strike was recorded at around 10:00 a.m. The drone hit the rear part of the train, sparking a fire.
Casualties and response
Preliminary reports indicate six people were injured in the attack. They are receiving necessary medical assistance, and ambulance crews are working at the scene. Information about the full consequences of the strike is still being clarified.
Pattern of attacks on trains
This is not the first recent case of Russian forces targeting Ukraine's railway infrastructure. On Monday, September 8, Russia attacked trains in various Ukrainian regions multiple times. In the Sumy region, a drone strike on a suburban train injured ten people, while shelling of a train traveling the Dnipro–Zaporizhzhia route killed a conductor. Also on Monday morning, Russian forces attacked a train on the Kyiv–Sumy route in the Sumy region, forcing the evacuation of 90 people.
