The attack came two days after a suspected Russian cruise missile landed in Poland during a massive strike on Ukraine. This was the second major attack on Kyiv this week; a Thursday strike killed nine people, including six members of one family in a village near Kryvyi Rih.
Russia has intensified attacks on the capital in recent months, while Ukraine remains chronically short of air defenses capable of intercepting ballistic missiles, which travel at several times the speed of sound. The latest assault underscores the ongoing threat to civilians and the urgent need for more sophisticated air-defense systems.
