Russia again halts gas supplies to Armenia

Russia has cut off gas supplies to Armenia for a ten-day period this week. This is not the first time such a step has been taken — Moscow used a similar measure last year as well, suspending deliveries for a comparable stretch of time.

The halt comes as Armenia continues its efforts to loosen its dependence on Russian influence in the region. In recent years, Yerevan has sought to diversify its foreign policy and economic ties, attempting to move away from the tight control Moscow has historically exercised over the relationship.
