Russia strikes Kyiv again: high-rise building on fire in Obolon district
Late Saturday, Russian drones attacked Kyiv once more, setting fire to a 12-storey building in the Obolon district while warehouses were damaged in the Podil and Holosiivskyi districts, extending a day of strikes that had already left casualties.
Kyiv came under renewed Russian drone attack late on Saturday evening. City mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that around 22:07 a drone crashed in the Obolon district in an area between residential buildings, sparking a fire in a 12-storey apartment block that spread from the second to the fifth floors. Emergency services were deployed to the scene.
Shortly after, around 22:44, Klitschko said medics had also been called to the Podil district. The air raid alert in Kyiv was lifted at 23:00, but reinstated just half an hour later, at 23:25, due to a renewed drone threat. Around 23:32 the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA) reported a fire at a warehouse facility in the Podil district, and after midnight it reported damage to a warehouse building in the Holosiivskyi district.

These latest strikes followed a series of incidents earlier on 29 August. During the day, a Russian drone hit a non-residential structure in the Podil district, while in Obolon a falling drone damaged a café and killed a two-year-old girl, with several other people injured. The number of people hurt in Kyiv from the day's drone attacks later rose to eight, and the city saw a repeat strike on a non-residential building.
Ukraine's Air Force said that over the course of 29 August, Russia had launched 224 attack drones at Ukraine, the vast majority of them heading toward Kyiv. In the evening, drone debris also sparked a fire at a private house in the Dniprovskyi district.
