Russian forces launched a missile attack on Kyiv overnight on September 8, damaging administrative buildings, warehouses, schools, and residential buildings across six districts of the city, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

Two people were killed in the attack, and ten others were injured, including two in serious condition, according to doctors.

The Ukrainian Air Force Command reported that Russian forces used a mix of missile types along with jet-powered drones, which are more difficult to intercept than standard drones.

A pause in attacks

Before this strike, Russia had not targeted Kyiv since September 5–7, a period that coincided with preparations for and the actual visit of US presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Ukraine.
