Warehouse fire near St Petersburg as Ukraine widens drone strikes on Ozon sites
Firefighters spent Sunday battling a blaze at a logistics centre next to an Ozon facility near St Petersburg, as Ukraine announced it was expanding its drone campaign against Russian e-commerce warehouses. No injuries were reported.
Emergency crews in Russia worked throughout Sunday to put out a fire at a logistics centre adjacent to a facility belonging to online retailer Ozon, located in the Kolpino district on the outskirts of St Petersburg. Footage released by Russia's emergency services ministry showed firefighters hauling hoses through debris as heavy smoke billowed over the site.
No casualties have been reported, and authorities have not disclosed what triggered the fire.
Campaign expands beyond Wildberries
The incident coincided with Ukraine's announcement that it is broadening its drone strike campaign against Russian logistics hubs. Kyiv's defence ministry said on Saturday that, after weeks of targeting warehouses belonging to Wildberries, it was now turning its focus to Ozon, Russia's second-largest online marketplace.
Over the weekend, two additional Ozon warehouses were struck, in the Samara and Orenburg regions. Ozon confirmed that operations at its Orenburg facility have been suspended as a result.
