Russia launches 224-drone attack on Ukraine, Kyiv the main target
On 29 August, Russia attacked Ukraine with 224 attack drones, most of them directed at Kyiv, where a two-year-old girl was killed and at least eight people were injured.
Ukraine's Air Force reported that on Friday, 29 August, between 06:30 and 18:00, Russia attacked Ukraine with 224 attack drones, most of which were jet-powered. The vast majority of these drones were directed toward the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.
According to early reports, air defence forces shot down or jammed 199 of the attack drones during the day. As of 18:20, the Air Force said up to 10 Russian attack drones were still being tracked in Ukrainian airspace. Around 18:40, another air-raid alert was issued in Kyiv over the continued threat of drone strikes.
Impact on Kyiv
On Friday afternoon, a drone crashed in Kyiv's Obolonskyi district, damaging a café and killing a two-year-old girl. A separate drone struck a non-residential building in the capital's Podilskyi district. Several people were reported injured at the scenes.
The number of people injured in Kyiv as a result of the Russian drone attacks later rose to eight. A second strike also hit a non-residential building in the capital.
