Russia Launches Massive Overnight Attack on Ukraine with 74 Missiles and Hundreds of Drones

At least eight people were killed, including three children, in Russia's combined missile and drone attack on Ukraine on the night of July 30.

Ukraine faced another large-scale Russian attack overnight on July 30, involving a variety of missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. The assault began at 6:00 PM on Wednesday and continued into Thursday morning. Ukraine's Air Force reported a total of 358 aerial attack means: 74 missiles and 284 drones.

Among the missiles were four Zircon/Oniks anti-ship missiles launched from Kursk Oblast, nine Iskander-M/S-400/KN-23 ballistic missiles from Bryansk, Voronezh, and Kursk oblasts, and 61 Kh-101/Kalibr cruise missiles from Vologda Oblast and Novorossiysk. The drones included Shahed-type strike drones, some with jet engines, as well as Gerbera, Italmas, and Parody imitation drones launched from multiple Russian regions.

The main targets were Kyiv and Lviv oblasts, but strikes also hit Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Vinnytsia, Poltava, Mykolaiv, and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts. The Air Force noted that the attack was characterized by the simultaneous use of different weapon types from various directions, along with a large number of ballistic and cruise missiles.

By 9:00 AM Kyiv time on Thursday, Ukrainian forces had shot down or neutralized 320 targets—55 missiles and 265 drones. Among the downed missiles were one ballistic and 54 cruise missiles. However, hits were recorded in 20 locations, including three anti-ship missiles, six ballistic missiles, two cruise missiles, and 17 strike drones. In another 13 locations, debris from downed targets fell.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that eight people were killed and dozens wounded. A particularly tragic incident occurred in the village of Radushne in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, where a ballistic missile destroyed a residential house, killing parents and three children. Two other children were rescued alive. In Lviv, a missile hit a residential building, and search and rescue operations are ongoing. Zelenskyy stressed the critical need for defense against Russian missile threats and criticized delayed assistance from partners.
