Russia strikes Kyiv with ballistic missiles overnight, residential buildings damaged

Russian occupying forces struck Kyiv with ballistic missiles overnight into September 8, damaging residential buildings and an educational institution, with people possibly trapped in one apartment building.

Overnight into September 8, Russian occupying forces launched a strike on Ukraine's capital Kyiv using ballistic missiles. The attack damaged several residential buildings as well as an educational institution. The information was reported by the Kyiv City Military Administration and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

People possibly trapped

According to Klitschko, a fire broke out on the grounds of an educational facility in the Holosiivskyi district. There is also preliminary information that people may be trapped inside a residential building. The mayor additionally noted fires at non-residential sites in the Podilskyi and Darnytskyi districts.

Damage across districts

Earlier reports indicated that falling debris hit a five-story residential building in the Solomianskyi district. Another location saw damage to a three-story residential building. In the Darnytskyi district, a vehicle was damaged by falling debris. Also in the Solomianskyi district, a warehouse building caught fire as a result of the enemy attack.

Background

Overnight into September 8, an air raid alert was declared in Kyiv and several regions of Ukraine, with explosions heard in the capital.
