Russia strikes Ukraine overnight with 130 drones and two Iskander-M missiles

Ukraine's Air Force has reported a fresh Russian air assault overnight into Sunday, involving two Iskander-M ballistic missiles and 130 drones. The strike followed what was described as a particularly bloody Saturday.

Weapons used

Among the drones deployed by Russia were Shahed-type drones, Gerbera drones, S8000 Banderol systems, and decoy drones known as "Parodiya," designed to mislead air defense systems. Ukrainian officials noted that most of the drones used were jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles.

Air defense results

According to Ukraine's Air Force, 125 drones were shot down, neutralized, or lost control across the country's northern, southern, and eastern regions. This means the vast majority of the drones launched overnight failed to reach their intended targets.

However, some strikes could not be prevented entirely — hits from enemy air attack weapons were recorded in 13 locations, and debris from intercepted drones or missiles fell in four additional locations. Some of the launched devices did not reach their targets at all.

Origin of the attack

Ukrainian military officials say the missiles and drones were launched from Russian border regions as well as from occupied territories in Donetsk region and Crimea. This indicates Russia continues to use both its own territory and occupied Ukrainian land to carry out such attacks.
