Russia to Temporarily Close Railway Border Crossings with Estonia, Latvia and Finland from July 1

The Russian government has decided to temporarily suspend the movement of people, vehicles, goods and cargo through several railway border checkpoints with Estonia, Latvia and Finland starting July 1, 2026, according to an official government decree.

The Russian government has adopted a decision to temporarily halt the movement of people, vehicles, goods and cargo through a number of railway border checkpoints on the borders with Estonia, Latvia and Finland, effective July 1, 2026. The corresponding order, signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on June 30, has been published on the official Russian legal acts portal.

According to the document, the restrictions apply to the following railway border checkpoints: Vyborg, Vartsilya, Lyuttya, St. Petersburg-Finland and Svetogorsk on the border with Finland; Pechory-Pskov on the border with Estonia; and Pytalovo on the border with Latvia.

The official period of the "temporary" suspension is not specified in the Russian government document. The Rus.ERR portal has not yet been able to obtain a reaction from Estonian authorities to this move.
