A Russian court on Monday sentenced Lev Shlosberg, deputy chairman of the opposition party Yabloko, to 11 years and one month in prison.

Shlosberg was convicted on charges of repeatedly discrediting the Russian army and of spreading deliberately false information, or "fake news," about the armed forces. The sentencing was reported by the independent news outlet Mediazona and several other media organizations.

Yabloko is one of the few officially registered opposition parties in Russia that has criticized Kremlin policy, including the continuation of the war in Ukraine. In recent years, Russian authorities have targeted several party representatives and other government critics using laws that criminalize public condemnation of the military or the spread of information that contradicts the official position.
