Russia's Ministry of Defense reported on Thursday a large-scale drone attack it says affected multiple regions of the country on September 19. According to the ministry, between 8:00 and 20:00 Moscow time, Russian air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 288 fixed-wing type drones.

Regions affected

The ministry said drones were detected over the Belgorod, Kursk, Bryansk, Kaluga, Oryol, Tula, Ryazan, Nizhny Novgorod and Vladimir regions, as well as over the Moscow region and Krasnodar Krai. Drones were also recorded over occupied Crimea and over the Black Sea.

The Russian defense agency provided no further details about the consequences of the attack, any damage caused, or possible casualties. Ukraine has not publicly commented on or confirmed the reported incident.

It should be noted that Russian official statements about the number of intercepted drones cannot be independently verified, and similar reports of mass drone activity have been issued regularly since Ukraine intensified long-range drone strikes against Russian territory.
