Russia has concluded a five-day attack campaign against Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, with its final blow delivered as a massive ballistic missile strike, Euromaidan Press reports.

The series of strikes began two days after the head of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) visited Moscow. The campaign against Kyiv continued for five days before culminating on 1 September.

Timed with the start of the school year

September 1 is marked in Ukraine as Knowledge Day, the date on which schoolchildren and students are meant to begin the new academic year. This year, the day coincided with the massive ballistic missile strike that closed out the five-day assault on the capital.

Euromaidan Press notes that the attack began around the time of a high-level US intelligence visit to the Russian capital, linking the timing of the campaign to diplomatic contacts between Washington and Moscow.
