Russia’s Agriculture Ministry is offering farms fuel that is 90 times dirtier than the diesel they purchased last year. The fuel, described as boiler fuel, is being provided as a substitute due to Ukrainian strikes that have wiped out clean diesel supplies. According to the ministry, this alternative fuel reduces engine lifespan by half.

The decision highlights the acute fuel shortage in Russia’s agricultural sector, forcing farmers to accept a low-quality alternative that could cause significant engine damage and increase maintenance costs. The move is expected to affect the efficiency of farming operations, though the ministry appears to have no other option to keep agricultural activities running.
