Russia Holds Nuclear Drills in Belarus; MP Urges Nuclear Strike on Ukraine
Russia conducted nuclear military training in Belarus in May, while Putin has refrained from direct nuclear threats. However, a St. Petersburg MP has called for the use of nuclear weapons to force Ukraine to sign a peace agreement.

In May, Russia held nuclear military exercises in Belarus. President Vladimir Putin has so far avoided direct nuclear threats against Kyiv, stating that Ukrainian strikes do not cause enough damage to warrant a nuclear response.
Despite this, some Russian politicians are pushing for nuclear escalation. Viktor Perov, a deputy from St. Petersburg, urged his fellow lawmakers to ask Putin to use nuclear weapons. "Our president was forced to start the special military operation, but, unfortunately, everything did not go as planned. Therefore, I believe that you, the deputies, should turn to the president with a request to start using nuclear weapons ... which will lead the leadership of Ukraine to sign a peace agreement," Perov said.
