Russia launches combined missile and drone attack on Ukraine; air defense downs 320 targets
On the night of July 29-30, Russia carried out a large-scale combined attack on Ukraine using various missiles and drones. Ukrainian air defense shot down 320 out of 358 aerial assets, but hits were recorded at 20 sites.
Russian forces conducted a massive combined attack on Ukraine overnight on July 29-30, employing attack drones and air-, land-, and sea-launched missiles of multiple types. Ukraine’s Air Force reported that the main focus of the attack was Kyiv and Lviv oblasts, with additional strikes targeting Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Vinnytsia, Poltava, Mykolaiv, and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts.
A total of 358 aerial assets were detected, including 74 missiles and 284 drones. The missile arsenal included four Zircon/Oniks anti-ship missiles (launched from Russia’s Kursk Oblast), nine Iskander-M/S-400/KN-23 ballistic missiles (from Bryansk, Voronezh, and Kursk oblasts), and 61 Kh-101/Kalibr cruise missiles (from Vologda Oblast and Novorossiysk). The drone component consisted of 284 Shahed attack drones (including jet-powered variants), Gerbera, Italmas, and Parodiya decoy drones launched from Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, and Shatalovo.
As of 09:00, Ukrainian air defense had shot down or jammed 320 assets – 55 missiles and 265 drones. Among the downed missiles were one Iskander-M/S-400/KN-23 ballistic missile and 54 Kh-101/Kalibr cruise missiles. However, three anti-ship missiles, six ballistic missiles, two cruise missiles, and 17 attack drones struck 20 sites. Debris from intercepted weapons fell at 13 locations. The status of eight missiles is still being confirmed.
The Air Force warned that the attack is ongoing and urged residents to remain vigilant and follow official announcements.
