Russia recruits Africans to fight in Ukraine: nearly 3,000 mercenaries identified
According to the 'Stop Russian Recruiters' platform linked to Ukraine's Ministry of Defence, Russia continues to recruit Africans for combat in Ukraine, with nearly 3,000 such fighters identified, of whom about one in six has been killed.

Russia is continuing its recruitment of fighters from African countries to send to the front lines in Ukraine. The 'Stop Russian Recruiters' platform, which is associated with Ukraine's Ministry of Defence, has identified nearly 3,000 such mercenaries. Approximately one in six of these recruits has already been killed in action.
The countries most affected by this recruitment include Cameroon, Ghana, Egypt, and Kenya. In these nations, recruitment is particularly active, with many mercenaries lured by promises of high pay or other benefits.
Russia has long used foreign mercenaries to supplement its forces in the war against Ukraine. African nationals have become a major target for recruitment, as they are often willing to risk their lives for financial gain.
