Russia Awarded Hosting Rights for 2030 Weightlifting World Championships
The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has decided where upcoming world championships will be held. Russia will host the senior event in 2030.

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), the sport's global governing body, has announced which countries will host weightlifting world championships in the coming years. Russia has been given the right to stage the 2030 event. The decision matters because it shows Russia can again bid for major international competitions in this sport.
Who hosts what
According to the report, Kosovo will host the 2028 youth championships, while Venezuela will stage the junior championships. The 2029 senior championships are due to take place in India.
The IWF said in its statement that all bids were excellent, so the federation is confident the tournaments will go well in the chosen countries. It also noted that three of the four selected countries – Kosovo, Venezuela and India – will host world-level IWF competitions for the first time. In the IWF's assessment, this shows the sport is growing around the world.
Nearest championships
This year's weightlifting world championships will be held from 27 October to 8 November in the Chinese city of Ningbo. The 2027 championships are planned for Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.
