Power outage after Russian strike halts trams and some trolleybuses in Mykolaiv
A Russian strike on Mykolaiv early on August 29 knocked out power to the electrical grid, halting tram service and part of the trolleybus network. The city transport operator is running battery-equipped trolleybuses on generators to maintain limited service.
Mykolaiv's municipal transport authority, Mykolaivelektrotrans, reported that a Russian strike on the morning of August 29 cut power to the city's electrical grid, forcing a temporary halt to tram operations and to part of the trolleybus network.
Backup transport deployed
To keep some public transport running despite the lack of grid power, the city has deployed 37 PTS-model trolleybuses equipped with autonomous battery range of up to 20 kilometers. These vehicles are being powered and recharged using diesel generators while the grid remains down.
Trams and Dnipro trolleybuses suspended
Tram service, along with trolleybus routes served by Dnipro-brand vehicles, has been temporarily suspended entirely. The operator said these routes would be gradually restored once the power situation stabilizes.
The operator also adjusted trolleybus route No. 8, which will temporarily run only between Matviivka and the railway station, skipping its usual stop near the cemetery.
Mykolaivelektrotrans asked residents to expect continued disruptions to public transport schedules until the grid damage is repaired.
