The Russian army carried out an air strike late on Saturday, 31 October, on Kramatorsk in eastern Ukraine, destroying the city executive committee building on Peace Square. The head of the Kramatorsk city military administration, Oleksandr Honcharenko, announced this on social media. The strike took place during the war Russia launched in Ukraine and hit one of the city's key administrative buildings.

Honcharenko wrote that Russia had, an hour earlier, destroyed with an air strike "the central building of Ukrainian statehood" in Kramatorsk.

History of the building

According to Honcharenko, the building had survived the occupation of 2014, assaults and the liberation of the city. He stressed that it was tied to the city's history, its machine-building tradition, its daily life and its plans for the future, calling it the "foundation of Ukrainian Kramatorsk".

He also said that a building can be destroyed, land scorched and memories stolen, but the right to a future cannot be taken away.

The source report does not say whether the strike caused any casualties, and it gives no further details about the circumstances of the attack.
