Death toll from Russian ballistic missile strike on Kyiv rises to nine, 27 injured

A Russian ballistic missile strike on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on the night of 31 July – 1 August has killed nine people and wounded 27 others, including four children, Ukraine's State Emergency Service has reported.

The attack triggered fires and damage in five districts of the city: Solomianskyi, Darnytskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Dniprovskyi and Pecherskyi.

In the Solomianskyi district, two people were killed and eight injured, including two children. A five-storey residential building partially collapsed and caught fire, while vehicles in a parking lot were also set ablaze. Three people were taken to hospital, and rescuers evacuated 35 residents from upper floors before extinguishing the blaze.

In the Darnytskyi district, seven people lost their lives and 14 were injured, including two children. Fires and structural damage were reported at an office building and a separate non-residential building. Vehicles caught fire and residential buildings were damaged at another location. Firefighters put out the flames, and a crater was found in an open area of a public park, with grass verges burning along one street.

In the Shevchenkivskyi district, a non-residential building caught fire, along with several ambulances. One person was found injured at one of the sites. A fire also broke out on the grounds of a film studio but was contained.

In the Dniprovskyi district, a shop was damaged, and in the Pecherskyi district, four houses and several outbuildings sustained damage.

The State Emergency Service later updated the injury count to 27, including four children. Earlier reports had put the death toll at four and injuries at 15.
