Russia's former soldiers may face a locked EU border—if France and Italy stop balking

France and Italy worry the measure could open the door to keeping every Russian out, Bloomberg sources say.

According to sources cited by Bloomberg, the governments of France and Italy are concerned that a proposal to bar former Russian soldiers from entering the European Union could set a precedent leading to a complete ban on all Russian citizens. The two countries are currently opposing the measure, which aims to restrict the entry of Russian military personnel. If France and Italy cease their opposition, the EU border could be closed to former soldiers.
